The East African Community is a regional intergovernmental organization comprising the Republic of Burundi, the Republic of Kenya, the Republic of Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of South Sudan and the Republic of Uganda with its Headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania.
The EAC mission is to widen and deepen economic, political, social and cultural integration to improve the quality of life of the people of East Africa through increased competitiveness, value added production, trade and investments.
This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated and result-driven professionals who are citizens of East African Community Partner States (Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan and United Republic of Tanzania) to apply for the following position tenable at East African Community Legislative Assembly.
SENIOR PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER (1 post)

Organ/Institution : East African Legislative Assembly
Duty Station : EALA, Arusha - Tanzania
Main purpose of the job:
To manage and implement EALA’s Communication strategy and publication policy within the framework of EAC’s corporate goals and public outreach priority areas.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure elaboration and implementation of the Assembly’s communications strategy consistent with its goals and priority areas;
- Ensure elaboration and implementation of the Assembly’s information dissemination and publications policy;
- Establish, maintain and improve links between the Assembly and the general public both regionally around the EAC Partner States and abroad, with particular emphasis on enhancing the image of the Assembly as a regional democratic institution of governance;
- Forge, improve and maintain relations between the Assembly and the mass media in order to ensure maximum positive coverage of the Assembly in the print and electronic media;
- Draft official statements for the Speaker in relation to Assembly matters;
- Work with the EAC Communications team to design, produce and distribute promotional materials and publications for the Assembly for both internal and external consumption and organize promotional and public outreach activities for the Assembly with a view to enhancing its public image;
- Manage and improve the Assembly's outreach programmes, especially for schools, colleges, universities and other educational institutions;
- Establish and maintain a Guest Centre for the Assembly and provide appropriate hospitality to visitors;
- In collaboration with relevant officers, manage the Assembly’s website content;
- Assist in preparing the EAC Annual Report;
- Any other duties as may be assigned; and
- Promote a corporate image of the EAC.
Qualifications and experience:
A Masters Degree in Journalism, Mass Communications, Public Administration or a related field with eight years experience in a similar or related position three of which should be at senior level. Knowledge of operations of a regional parliament will be an added advantage.

Eligibility for applications:

Terms and Conditions of Service:
The above position is tenable for a contract of five (5) years renewable once .
This position is subject to the application of the Quota System .

Education Qualifications:
All candidates applying must have qualifications that are recognized by the relevant national accreditation body in their respective Partner State. This condition is applicable for locally and internationally attained qualifications.
All professions that require registration with the specific professional bodies will be expected to do so in compliance with the requirements of their respective Partner States.
Relevant Working Experience:
Internship, training and apprenticeship will not be considered as relevant work experience.
