Orkeeswa School is looking for a passionate educator to coordinate our Life Skills program and lead our Life Skills Curriculum Development Project.
Orkeeswa's Life Skills program aims to equip our students with the knowledge and skills necessary for them to make positive, healthy decisions in their lives today and in the future. We are in the process of developing a seven-year long Life Skills curriculum that will become the core of our program, integrated into the many aspects of an Orkeeswa students experience at school and in their community. Through this curriculum, students should be able to: understand important aspects of their own personal health, as well as develop awareness of public health challenges in their community; develop and articulate their own personal philosophies and values, and learn how to enact them in their lives; practice and obtain hard and soft skills necessary to maneuver the current world as leaders and active members of the Orkeeswa community, including developing skills in media literacy, problem solving, communication, leadership and resilience.
The responsibilities of the Life Skills Coordinator include:
- Gather and organize resources to support the development of Life Skills lessons
- Develop, organize and revise lesson plans
- Gather and integrate feedback from students, facilitators, counselors, teachers, parents, and leadership team members regarding curricular needs for the Life Skills program
- Lead life skills facilitator meetings to review lesson plan format and content to ensure facilitators are prepared for their lessons
- Coordinate Life Skills classes, including managing time tables, classrooms, resources and covering absent facilitators
- Coordinate Professional Development workshops for Life Skills facilitators
- Execute the Life Skills program monitoring and evaluation framework
- Coordinate with Counseling Team regarding student issues that emerge in Life Skills home groups
- Coordinate Life Skills Peer Educators program and curriculum development
- Support the Counseling Team's parent education program
- Oversee the integration of Life Skills education into other aspects of the school's curriculum
Preferred Skills / Experience:
- Education / Professional Experience related to Social Work, Public Health, Education, or related field
- A passion for working with youth
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Curriculum Development and/or Professional Development experience is strongly preferred
