You would be supporting the Business in Dar es Salaam Tanzania 

Requirements

A vacancy has arisen for an Assistant Accountant in our Tanzania business, based in Dar es Salaam. Reporting to the Financial Accountant, the successful candidate will execute day-to-day finance and accounting duties, including among other areas, petty cash operations, payments processing, and stocks accounting.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

    • Receipt and record branch cheques ensuring the same are banked accordingly.
    • Post receipts and EFTS
    • Post bank charges as per bank statement
    • Cash book analysis, coding and subsequent postings
    • Check, and code all petty cash.
    • Ensure that the petty cash is up to date and reconciled monthly to the cash float, that all expense claims are supported by appropriate documentation and authorised signatory.
    • Ensure that major accounts are regularly reconciled, that cash is allocated on a daily basis and that credit balances are investigated.
    • Manage and post travel expense forms
    • Carry out cashiering duties
    • Ensure that statutory cheques/payments are remitted on or before due dates.
    • Post financial data to appropriate accounts, and run required reports in the accounting systems, according to instructions.
    • To ensure that the cash book is updated and posted to the ledger on a daily basis
    • Prepare/assist in the preparation of the month end bank reconciliation.
    • Ensure that all cheque payments are supported by authorised documents
    • Ensure that creditors’ payments are allocated regularly and debit balances are investigated
    • Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts
    • Assist with daily and monthly Treasury tasks
    • Review and monitor staff expense claims
    • Monitor levels of stock items and set and update re-order levels
    • Handle and coordinate importation of stocks, and liaise with clearing agents
    • Initiate/process stock requisitions and forward to Line Managers for approval
    • Ensure that stores records are accurately maintained and up to date and the necessary reports are generated and acted upon.
    • Carry out analysis of monthly stock issuance, investigate and explain significant variances
    • Coordinate PPE stock requirements and initiate stock required
    • Ensure sound internal control systems pertaining to stocks are in place and stock procedures are regularly updated to remain relevant and to help safeguard against stock mis-use, fraud or errors.
    • Maintain relevant accounting data and provide information to assist management to make strategic financial decisions
    • Undertake ad-hoc responsibilities as required

  • Proficient in English - written and spoken
  • Accounting skills and experience minimum 2 years
  • Customer Care experience advantageous
