Geita is a town in northwestern Tanzania, with a population of 99,795 (2012 census). It is located in the centre of a gold mining area. In March 2012 it became the administrative headquarters of the newly created Geita Region. Geita regained prominence in the mid to late 1990s when the Tanzanian government opened the mineral sector to foreign investment
The main responsibility of Geita Town Council is to ensure that citizens have access to productive and sustainable services through the implementation of policies and guidelines based on good governance and citizen participation in all decision-making processes towards a better life.
The Council aims to build its capacity in providing sustainable services to ensure a better life and reduce poverty for the people of Geita City Council by 2025
