The overall purpose of the role: The Protection Team Leader is responsible for the overall management and implementation of activities of the DRC protection program.

Responsibilities: (in bullet points)
•    Supervise the daily monitoring visits, focus group discussions, participatory assessments, key informant interviews according to the DRC protection program’s information collection and management plan, ensuring appropriate treatment of sensitive information;
•    ensure that community and individual protection issues emerging from protection monitoring are assessed and those appropriate referrals are made to UNHCR or other actors;
•    Supervise the Identification of protection cases in need of urgent response; make sure that protection principles, especially do no harm, and the 6 steps of protection case management are adhered to at all times.
•    supervise the assessment of protection cases in need of individual protection assistance (IPA), provide advice to officers and assistants when needed, ensure that IPA is provided safely and confidentially following protection principles.
•    Support protection assistants and officers in resolving more complex protection cases as well as family/neighbour conflict where community mediation mechanisms are not sufficient
•    Work with Assistants and Officers to create weekly work plans and prioritization of tasks;
•    Ensure targets are met under DRC’s agreement with donors, to be accountable to the stated goals of the program;
•    Supervise the proper documentation and secure storage of any protection data collected (hard and soft copies);
•    Coordination: foster and maintain excellent working relationships with all stakeholders, and participate in coordination meetings including protection workgroup meetings, GBV sub-working group meetings etc.
•    ensure that a community-based protection network is in place in all villages in the camps;
•    Supervise training and on-job coaching to community-based protection networks on protection principles, mediation, identification of protection issues etc.
•    ensure that a community-based protection network is capacitated and supported to identify protection problems and to come up with solutions at the community level as well as to refer problems that cannot be resolved at the community level
•    lead on organizing community dialogue forums and peaceful coexistence events between refugees and host community in collaboration with Protection Manager
•    ensure protection is mainstreamed in all DRC interventions and actively promote protection mainstreaming within DRC
•    Work closely with DRC’s community-based protection team and other partners to ensure an understanding of the overall protection issues affecting refugees in the camps and create analyses to be shared with all partners
•    Propose new activities according to identified needs and suggest solutions for problems encountered.
•    compile weekly and monthly reports on activities implemented, major findings from protection monitoring, needs and challenges faced;
•    Keep track of indicators and monitor progress towards targets according to log frame and project proposal;
•    Ensure daily verbal feedback on urgent issues is reported to the Protection Manager
•    lead a team of protection assistants and protection officers and ensure their performance is evaluated as per DRC procedures
•    foster a good working environment and good working relationships within the team;
•    Prepare purchase requests and monitor the procurement of goods and services in collaboration with the Protection Manager;
•    Monitor budget expenditure in collaboration with Protection manager and participate in BFU meetings any other task as assigned by Protection Manager.

Experience and technical competencies: (include years of experience)
•    at least 2-year work experience in protection work or related field
•    at least 2-year experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings

Education: (include certificates, licenses etc.)
University degree preferably in the social sciences such as social work, psychology, law or similar

Languages: (indicate fluency level)
•    English (spoken and written) – excellent
•    Kiha (spoken) – good (desirable)
•    French (spoken) – basic (desirable)
