General Description
Under the supervision of the Business Development Manager (BD Manager from hereon), the System Design Engineer performs site-specific engineering evaluation of prospective projects and turns initial system concept ideas into fully detailed construction ready designs. In coordination with the Sales Team, Project/Site Manager, and customers, the System Design Engineer creates designs that balances the necessity of customer solution with the efficiency of standard practices. Working on residential, commercial, and industrial projects under the Energy & Security Division, the System Design Engineer has a steady pipeline of diverse projects to design.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Works closely with the Engineering team, Sales Team and Project/Site Manager in conducting site surveys with the goal of assessing equipment needs and determining system requirements for prospective projects. Site information collected include structural, electrical, and related information for use in the design of renewable energy systems and security systems.
- Maintains accurate records of conversations and meetings with customers, project/site managers, and sales team during site surveys.
- Develops designs that capture specifications of renewable energy systems, security systems and their components that meet requirements of residential, commercial, or industrial customers.
- Performs site-specific engineering analysis and evaluation and determines the following requirements during surveys for energy and security projects:
- Client’s requirement.
- Feasibility study of the site.
- Guide site survey team on client’s requirements and system.
- With the assistance of the engineering team, leads the completion of system designs for energy and security projects including: site plans, mounting structures and attachment plans, single-line electrical drawings, specifications of balance of systems, location and interconnection details, and labeling.
- Coordinates with legal team to ensure that Gadgetronix.Net complies with all regulatory requirements that applies to the prospective project before quotations, survey reports, and designs are sent to Operations Manager and Accounting Manager for review.
- Considers relevant ergonomic and health safety issues related to work station design.
- Ensures that applicable ordinances and regulations governing the design and installation of specific product lines under the Energy & Security Division are communicated to Project Teams.
- Provides streamlined project information and detailed BOM (bill of materials) to the Operations Manager, Project Team, and Store Manager.
- Provides technical direction or support to field teams during installation, start-up, testing, system commissioning and performance monitoring.
- Supports Project Teams by providing them with relevant technical information as needed at any phase of the project development.
- Reviews specifications and recommends engineering or manufacturing changes to achieve system design objectives.
- Creates plans for project development, monitoring, and evaluation activities.
- Creates checklists for review or inspection of completed projects.
Secondary Responsibilities
- Understands the applicable ordinances and regulations governing the design and installation of specific product lines represented by the Energy & Security Division of GadgetroniX.Net.
- Understands the optimal design applications and design limitations of product offerings under the Energy & Security Division, leads the evaluation of alternate products, and offers recommendations to the Business Development Manager.
- With supervision of the Business Development Manager, searches and identifies new products that fit the Tanzanian market.
- Assists the Business Development Manager in searching and identifying latest technologies that complement the product and service offerings of the Energy & Security Division.
- Creates and delivers professional design presentations to end users in coordination with the Business Development Manager.
- Supports the Sales Team by giving them relevant information on specific product lines under the Energy & Security Division. Such information should include but not be limited to approved manufacturer product design and application, product specification and technical specifications.
Education and Work Experience
- At least a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field. A BSc. degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering is preferred. Holding certificates/accreditation related to project management, renewable energy systems, security systems, or quality management systems is an added advantage.
- At least three (3) years of design or engineering experience related to renewable energy systems. Any additional experience with estimating or designing electrical systems is preferred.
- Working knowledge of design specific software programs used in the performance of job responsibilities.
- Knowledge of photovoltaic systems and construction requirements. Relevant experience in manufacturing, construction, telecommunication or engineering industry preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of products and services related to Energy & Security.
- Working knowledge of the renewable energy industry in East Africa and current market trends and events in Tanzania.

- Ability to complete documentation packages and drawing sets, examine drawings for conformity and errors.
- High level of technical and scientific knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to practical problems.
- IT skills, particularly computer-aided design is an added advantage.
