Mbarali District is one of the seven districts of Mbeya Region, Tanzania. It is bordered to the north by Iringa region and east by Njombe region. To the south the district is bordered by Mbeya Rural District and to the west by Chunya District.
According to the 2018 Tanzania National Census projection, the population of Mbarali district more than 350,000.[1] Before the expansion of the Ruaha National Park in 2008, Mbarali District covered an area of 15,560 square kilometres (6,008 sq mi).
Mbarali district is the most famous area for rice farming. The district is home to Kapunga rice project and Mbarali estate. The district hosts a very famous wetland called Ihefu, as well as the Usangu plain. Ruaha National Park is within the district to the north side.
Health and Social Welfare
This department aims to facilitate the provision of quality health and prevention services, treatment and development of health and social welfare services in the Council.
Responsibilities of the Department of Health and Social Welfare in Mbarali District Council.
- Coordinate and advise on the implementation of Health policies in the District
- Coordinate Health and Social Welfare issues in the District
- To oversee the proper delivery of health services provided by public hospitals / centers and the private sector in the District
- Capacity building for Hospitals, Health Centers and Dispensaries in the provision of health services
- Provide professional advice on the preparation of programs to combat / prevent HIV / AIDS
- Provide professional advice on the conduct of HIV / AIDS related activities in the District
- Provide health care / support needed during outbreaks in the District
- Provide clinical and medical services to internal and external patients brought from District Council Health Centers / Hospitals.
- Provide professional (specialized) medical services
- Provide / Support professional services and support needed for Health Centers and Hospitals during outbreaks of infectious diseases
- Provide laboratory referral services and tests
- Coordinate access to medicines / medical equipment for District hospitals.
