POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager, Human Resources and Operations will be primarily responsible for improving systems, processes and policies in support of JGI-USA Africa Programs which implements strategies to achieve JGI’s mission – “to understand and protect chimpanzees, other apes and their habitats, and to work towards creating an informed and compassionate critical mass of people who will help to create a better world for people, other animals and our shared environment.”

Reports To: Vice President of Africa Programs
Location: Flexible with a preference for US, Uganda or Tanzania

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Candidates in this position regularly perform the following duties and responsibilities:

Human Resources:

  • Determine new staff requirements for program implementation and impact (in consultation with senior managers in country offices).
  • In conjunction with country-level Executive Directors track staff development needs and recommended/justified trainings to fill gaps in line with the Africa Programs strategy.
  • Lead identification and implementation of initiatives that maintain high morale and team cohesion.

Operations:

  • Conduct review of all country offices to ensure that registration is current and in adherence to local government policies.
  • Develop appropriate asset management systems to track assets for purposes on supporting programs, activities and personnel. Includes fleet management, ICT, and all moveable assets in AP.
  • Responsible for overall property management and ensuring appropriateness of property to programmatic/team needs (e.g., office relocation/rental properties, etc.).
  • Facilitate the review and updates to Emergency and Evacuation Policies in AP country offices and the US office.
  • In collaboration with ED’s, lead security planning to prepare, coordinate and respond to arising security challenges from insecurity, volcano explosion, etc.
  • Review and support the establishment of Standard Operating Procedures for country offices.
  • Coordinate travel for AP and AP contractors to ensure that travel is managed in accordance with funding available (with accurate allocation to projects) and donor rules and regulations.
  • Lead review and establishment of MoU’s and Contractor Agreements.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management or related field;

Language Skills: Mandatory strong written and spoken English Skills; French (Spoken) strongly preferred;

Past Experience: At least 7 years management and/or human resource experience with supervisory experience. Demonstrated experience working in sub-Saharan Africa mandatory, experience working in Francophone Africa a strong plus.
