The Role

The Global Payment business unit is a fast-paced and dynamic team with one key focus area being to grow the enterprise/merchant ecosystem connected to the MFS Africa payments platform. As a core member of the team, the Country Director will be primarily responsible for driving new customer acquisition efforts and related commercial activities in Tanzania.

In addition to building, managing and growing the Global Enterprise business in Tanzania, the Country Director, will also be responsible to managing the day-to-day office activities of the Tanzania legal entity, and will serve as the most senior representative of MFS Africa in Tanzania. This will entail overseeing local staff in Tanzania, managing the office in Dar Es Salaam, and being the local regulatory point person with the Bank of Tanzania, working closely with the Group Regulatory Affairs team.

The role requires a seasoned business development professional with solid business acumen, a strong business development track record with experience across the region, and a deep understanding of the Tanzania Digital Financial & MSME industry.

The Country Director, will work closely with and report to the Vice President of Global Enterprises. The role will be based in Dar Es Salaam, requiring travel within Tanzania and other regions within East Africa, as needed.

The duties and responsibilities of the role will be as follows:

(90% Business Development; 10% Country Office management)

  • Implement the company’s strategy to grow digital business lines in line with regional goals
  • Build, manage and close a portfolio of top-tier enterprise partners
  • Understand market trends and client needs to develop account strategies to close the resulting opportunities
  • Work closely with the VP of Global Enterprise to develop and execute account plans and strategies
  • Oversee the sales process from lead development to contracting to onboarding to account growth
  • Develop and manage partner relationships with key C-level decision-makers to help grow their business
  • Work with colleagues across the MFS Africa team to delight our partners
  • Achieve account acquisition & revenue targets
  • Serve as the senior country representative for the Tanzania office and operations
  • Work closely with the Group Regulatory Affairs team on all engagement related to Bank of Tanzania and any other regulatory authority in Tanzania
