Description
This position will be responsible for strengthening institutional capacities of key practitioners to improve their capacities in the use of tools for conservation, participation in wildlife management, and restoration of forest resources and degraded land in Kilombero landscape in Southern Tanzania. The position will be based in Ifakara, Morogoro and will report to the Landscape Manager.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to the landscape by focusing on: strengthen the capacity of stakeholders in Kilombero landscape including communities, civil society, government and business on their roles and responsibilities as duty bearers to promote good governance and increase accountability on natural resources management and landscape management.
- Ensure that project activities are on-time, on-budget, and on-track for contributing to the achievement of the projects’ objectives and contractual obligations and programmatic objectives.
- Training key actors on the use tools aiming conservation, sustainable management, and restoration of forest ecosystems and degraded lands.
- Training farmers and rural communities to sustainably manage land and water enhances climate-resilience and creates opportunities for sustainable income generation.
- Ensure that local communities and leaders play key roles in all decision-making processes in relation to their conserved lands, through monitoring and participation in major dialogue spaces.
- Represent AWF on Community Based Natural Resources Forums/Meetings/Workshops at local and regional level
- Maintain close working collaboration with government institutions, international environmental organization, private and civil society actors, and local communities to build and operationalize partnerships aimed at wildlife management and restoration of degraded forests and lands.
- Collaborate with the Monitoring and Learning Officer, Programme Officers and partners to apply the M&E framework and its tools to demonstrate the impacts of the projects and activities.
- In collaboration with the Landscape Manager and Landscape Officers, develop and support the capture and sharing of project related knowledge to ensure the timely and quality delivery of knowledge products for specific audiences and other project outputs.
- Actively contribute to fundraising for initiatives to implement AWF's Strategy through the development of proposals to be submitted to donors.
- Perform any other relevant duties as may be assigned by supervisor(s)
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline (Forestry Management, Land Use, Natural Resources Management, Development Studies, Environmental Management, or other relevant academic field). Masters an advantage
- 5+ years of relevant professional work experience on relevant issues.
- Proven track record in coordinating multidisciplinary projects and team work
- A task oriented, result focused and collaborative leadership approach with a thorough understanding of project management disciplines.
- Experience and a proven success record in working and implementing projects.
- Experience of successfully managing large-medium projects and delivering timely and verifiable results.
- Demonstrated knowledge and mastery of global standards and practices for conservation including in protected area planning and management, participatory land use planning, community conservation, rights-based approaches, and integrated conservation and development.
- Proficiency in English (spoken and written), Kiswahili will be an added advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to build capacity of multiple stakeholders and facilitate multi-stakeholder processes to engage in landscape planning and management.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills including the ability to build coalitions, negotiate, and manage conflict; familiarity with protocols associated with working in both Kenya and Tanzania.
- Genuine respect for the skills and perspectives of communities, partner organizations and the private sector.
- Conservancy management experience a strong advantage
- Good report writing skills and working knowledge of computers and MS Office software package.
