Task

Background and objectives

Requirements

Supervise external engineering including drawing preparation, checking and approval technical specifications, test reports and operational procedures To evaluate the design, installation and operational use of ship machinery and electrical plants. Develop an understanding of vessel motions, stability, vessel structural and design codes; Engineer a variety of systems, including the ship’s propulsion , electric etc Investigate modification proposals, preparations for operational upgrades; Provide engineering assistance for ship repair and docking; The engineer will support the office and the project team to fine tune the technical specifications, via zoom or similar online tools including emails. The engineer will be a part of a wider team of engineers from the government and project officers from the country office. Each day tasks may not be requiring more than a couple of hours. The engineer will also support the procurement head to respond to bidders, technical review team.

To procure a patrol boat for the government of Tanzania to tackle illegal sea activities. The boat has to be built to tailored specifications. The volunteer will contribute to the procurement of key assets in the seas project which is essential to undertake the activities of the project such as sea patrolling.

Volunteers: 1 needed

11-20 hours per week / 24 weeks

• BSc or MSc Bachelor’s in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering Maritime Academy or equivalent Experience in marine profession, naval architecture industry or marine Engineering,; • Have offshore experience an advantage • Able to work independent as well in a team; • Good command of the English language, both written and spoken; Dealing with boats and vessels and or public procurement experience can be valued as an asset.
